Symbian commenced from the famous British generation of Psion's EPOC operating system, the last operating system to date, to be built from the ground up. EPOC and thus Symbian have been designed and developed with extremely resource constrained devices in scope. Hence it is the lowest memory leak operating system, where every byte counts, and orphaned memory loses are unacceptable. Over the years, Symbian has proven to be the most stable platform on the mobile smartphone market. However such harsh restrictions translate to extremely strict development standards.
